Elizabeth “Betty” J. Cummins, 77, of Horseshoe Bend, AR, formerly of Lehigh, IA, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at her daughter’s home in Fort Dodge, surrounded by her family, after a short, courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 AM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be at West Lawn Cemetery, Lehigh. Visitation begins at 4:00 PM with a Vigil Service at 7:45 PM, followed by a time to share on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at the funeral home. A Memorial Service will be held in Horseshoe Bend at a later date.

Elizabeth Jane Lennon was born December 23, 1935, in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Michael and Marie (Hollister) Lennon of Clare, IA. Betty graduated from St. Mathews High School in 1954. She met Harold Cummins at the Laramar Ballroom. They married June 9, 1956, and moved to Lehigh in 1959, where they raised 7 children.

Over the years, Betty had various occupations. However, she found her niche as an award winning Realtor for Iowa Realty in Ft. Dodge. In 2004, she moved to Horseshoe Bend, AR, with Harold, where she worked as a Realtor for Scenic Realty “retirement” was not in her vocabulary.

Betty led a very active social life and was blessed with many wonderful friends. She loved dancing with Harold, spending time with her growing family, line dancing, pitching horseshoes, playing golf, Bunko, and 500, as well as cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. She was a devout Catholic.

Betty is survived by her husband of 56 years: Harold; 7 children: Rebecca (Misha Neininger) Cummins of Seattle, WA, Ronald (Michelle) Cummins of Harcourt, Brenda Dahlstrom of Dayton, Rodney Cummins of Lehigh, Deborah (James) Casey of Rockwell City, Deanne Cummins of Fort Dodge and Russell (Wendy) Cummins of Seattle; 16 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Veronica Hinds of Fort Dodge, Catherine (Don) Schadegg of Pleasant Hill, CA, and Patricia Mikelson of Fort Dodge; 2 sisters-in-law: Vicki (Don) Rockafellow of Fort Dodge and Connie Slawson of Lehigh, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Harold’s parents: Ivyl and Goldie Cummins; 5 brothers: Richard, John, William, James and Michael Lennon; 1 sister: Mary Margaret Lennon; 2 brothers-in-law: Lovell Cummins (Darlene) and Wilber Cummins; and 1 sister-in-law: Virginia Post (Bob).
