Jim was born on March 4, 1911, in Fort Dodge. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1930, during the depression years. His first job was with Horn Folding Partition Company, as their draftsman. Jobs were scarce and he was a straight A student in his drafting class at school and he felt this helped to secure his job. His last job was with the Fort Dodge Community School District as the caretaker of Dodger Stadium. He worked there for 30 years, retiring in 1973.

James is survived by his nieces and nephews Sharon (Dan) Block, Judy Patterson, Kent (Rita) Carlson, Leslye (Jack) Yates and Jerilyn Carlson; his extended family Bob (Milli) and Tim Waterhouse and several great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents James and Clara (Trost) Carlson and his two brothers Herbert “Hub” (Dorothy) Carlson and Don (Barbara) Carlson.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
