Marjorie Christenson, 87, of Fort Dodge, died on Friday, January 4, 2013 at the Marian Home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2013 at Christ Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge with Pastor Craig Miller officiating. The visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at Christ Lutheran Church. Arrangements have been entrusted with Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Survivors include her husband Roger; daughter Judy Schwanz and her husband Thomas of Badger, IA; son Rodney Christenson of Coconut Creek, FL; two granddaughters Tammy Trites and her husband Hank of Granville, OH and Jill Eldal and her husband Paul of Moorland, IA; 3 great-grandchildren Adam and Hailey Schwanz of Fort Dodge and Josie Eldal of Moorland, IA and her brother Harley Saunders of Ogden, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Florence Saunders; grandson Joel Schwanz; great-granddaughter Allison Eldal; and sisters Genevieve Petrie, Catherine Dennis and Nila Clemens.
Marjorie was born July 16, 1925 in Boone, IA. She lived in the Ogden area, where she finished her schooling. She later went to the Fort Dodge Beauty School to graduate as a hair stylist. She married Roger Christenson on September 12, 1947. She has made her home in Fort Dodge since 1957. Marjorie enjoyed her career as a hair stylist for over 50 years before retiring several years ago. During her career she was very active in the National Hairdressers & Cosmetologists Association., as well as the State and County chapters, and served as an officer of Affiliate 58 from 1964 to 1966. She enjoyed working in her church.
